Acceptance necessarily doesn’t mean resignation or defeat. It just means that we need to understand that sometimes things are just what they are and we need to find a way to walk through them. Awareness of a situation makes it easy for acceptance to find a home in mind and heart. It’s hard, it’s painful and it’s different being the recipient of a legacy that can be both a gift and a curse.

Jennifer Probst’s new series, “Dark Blessings” is a different kind of series. Read with a naked mind and it opens endless possibilities of heroes who may be helping the weak in their own dark blessed ways. People who are gifted, yet are human, just like you and me.

Her first book in the series, “Dante’s Fire” introduces us to Dante Stark, born with a legacy that took the lives of loved ones, yet he has taught himself to control and use his gift with caution. Hiding under the mask of a mail guy, running his wealthy business empire within the shadows of his best friend, he lives the life of simplicity with all its complexity and in spades, with a heart of gold.

Selena Rogers as the woman he loves from afar is just as elegant and classy. With a warm heart and an abundance of desire to help others, she is Dante’s reality and life. Two lonely souls, who spar with each other, everyday about Metallica, opera and financial news, find each other as they battle injuries physically and emotionally.

From the very first page, the story was mesmerizing with its sweet narration of a man, trying to live a simple life, a life he had accepted with all its colors, and content with loving his girl from afar. There are no thrills, no frills or innumerable secondary characters that mar the story, which is just perfect. It’s deep with many layers to unravel Dante and Selena, rich in human emotions, endearing as these two really beautiful people come together, and the elegance of Jennifer’s writing. This was Dante’s dance of fire, as he rolls with the daily life, to overcome his insecurities and doubts, place his secret in the hands of the woman he loves, and manages to win her heart and soul.

Dante’s Fire seduces with its simple and graceful narration of an intense story of patience, endurance, passion and love.

It’s not everyday you wake up and know that today may be the day that can change your entire life. It’s not everyday you go about your routine, and know that you may come face to face with a blast from the past. And it’s not everyday you are a witness to an explosion that rocks your entire world and you would end up bound to danger.

Maria Cervantes is a community activist and despite being rich, she gives her time and energy towards various causes. At the event of a benefit dinner, she comes up close and personal with terrorists plotting to create mayhem in Miami. Before she can do anything about it, the whole mansion erupts in an explosion and she loses her mother in the devastation along with many prominent personalities and celebrities.

In comes Cade O’Reilly, Special Ops, Maria’s line of defense as she battles memory loss and has become a person of interest to NSA. Cade was her dead brother’s former commander years ago in Afghanistan. As the sole witness, Maria’s life along with other prominent people is in danger, as the terrorists are not done with their plan of destruction and want to find out what Maria knows or not knows. And when the betrayal comes from the inside, it is so much more treacherous and menacing.

Cade and Maria were friends before they became lovers. Time and circumstances have separated them but not the love they feel for each other. Now that Maria’s life is in danger, Cade would leave no stone unturned to protect the one woman he’s loved with his heart and soul. As they battle their way through the danger layered by the terrorist, Cade and Maria put closure to the questions of their past life and rekindle the sparks of love that never died.

Bound to Danger is the second book in Katie Reus’s Special Ops series after Targeted and it was fabulous to visit Jack Stone. Paranormal or romantic suspense, Katie Rues does a brilliant job of writing captivating and intriguing stories of love, passion and betrayal.

“Taste Of Darkness” is the second in her Darkness Series and it sure takes you on a thrilling ride of lost families, loyalty and betrayal. Drake is an ancient powerful dragon shifter saved from the torture of Hell by Vega, and trying to find his place with the Stavros pack.

As Drake tries to remember the past and his identity, he becomes friends with Victoria. Knowing Victoria is his mate, yet he stays away from her to make himself worthy of her. For being a dangerous dragon, he is one of the most kindest and passionate mates anyone can ask for her. It is really sweet how hard he tries to keep his hands off of Victoria and resists her many overtures, until he feels confident that he can find his rightful place beside her. For a lonely dragon like him, Victoria is his woman and only salvation.

Victoria is a wolf shifter and a healer for the Stavros pack and she gets drawn to Drake from the first time she meets with him. Always thinking of others ahead of her, she is a great friend and confidant and everyone is protective of her. It doesn’t take long for her to fall in love with the fiery and fascinating Drake. I loved Victoria! She’s one power ball of courage and bravery and doesn’t hesitate to put her life in danger for others.

As Victoria navigates Drake to deal with the reality of life on Earth, they not only have to deal with the danger for their lives, but also of the family Drake finally reunites with. The danger is much closer than they can imagine, and betrayal comes from within the walls of family.

Though “Taste Of Darkness” can be read as a standalone, grab the first book in the series, “Darkness Awakened” to get to know the leader of the Stavros Pack, Finn and his fiery vampire mate, Lyra. Can’t wait to read the stories of the other characters and their life mates.

War is never beautiful. Neither are the consequences of war. It tears families apart leaving behind shards of a broken life. Some are lucky enough to go over the other side with minimum consequences, yet some are not strong enough to weather the remnants of a nightmare they endure day in day out, to give us a blanket of protection and peace.

Catherine Mann’s “Shelter Me”, a first in her new series, Second Chance Ranch, takes us up close and personal to the McDaniels, a military family dealing with the death of a son, father and a husband, Allen McDaniel. Nestled in the sunny fields of Tennessee, the McDaniel family runs a Second Chance Rescue., an operation that borders on bankruptcy and strong opposition from some neighbors.

Into this storm come two arrivals, Trooper, the fallen General’s special war dog and his guardian, Staff Sergeant Mike Kowalski. For the latter, it is a bittersweet reunion with his one-time sweetheart Sierra and for Sierra, seeing Mike again brings forth all the memories of a love that was cut short. Thrown together in taking care of the ranch, they rediscover each other, stoking the embers into a flame of love.
ShelterMe-CMann-Aug2014

Catherine is very eloquent portraying the feelings of a family going through pain and loss and dealing with them. From an Alzheimer grandfather to a rebellious teenager Nathan to a war widow Lacey to a young Sierra trying to hold everything together, “Shelter Me” explores the trials and tribulations of a family who lost more than just a family member. It brings out the desperation of a wife who lost her very soul at war, a teenage boy who misses his father and does not know how to handle the grief, and a grandfather who swings between reality and forgetfulness and a daughter who puts aside her dreams to hold her family together.

“Shelter Me” is also the story of Trooper who plays a silent role taking the fallen General’s place through his own humorous point of view. I loved the way each member was given page-time for us to understand their feelings of guilt, insecurities and frustrations. It takes us on an emotional journey of loss, love and second chances, and that things will fall into place as they are meant to be. And oh my! The epilogue was ultra sweet and poignant and leaves you so very happy!

This is a great start to a new series, and I can’t wait to read about Lacey and Nathan, who hopefully get their own HEAs.

I forgot what an entertaining writer Julie Garwood is!!!! She mixes the right doses of romance and thrill to make her books enjoyable and go back to them for seconds. I’ve always loved her Buchanan-Renard Series, my all time favorite is “Heartbreaker”, and did not realize how much I missed them. It was wonderful reading “Fast Track”, with lot of writing space for Reagan and Alec and Sophie and Jack to make their presence felt.

Cordelia is raised by her father and turns out to be a sweet and successful lady teaching chemistry and involved in a whole bunch of other activities. The death of her father brings to light the truth behind her mother’s supposed death leading to a threat on her life.

FastTrack-JulieGarwood-July2014Aiden Hamilton owns the Hamilton chain of hotels and is Reagan’s brother. Arrogant and bossy, he gets involved in Cordie’s family drama. The danger plaguing Cordelia raises his protective instincts and literally jails her in his penthouse after an attempt on her life that could have proved fatal.

The banter among all is fun to read, it was charming to see how life was treating the married couples. Aiden and Cordelia finally get into each other and obviously end up together. More than any character development, the story was just a nice read of romance and suspense. The unconditional love and support among the friends was a treat to read.

Witty dialogues, charming relationships, intense romance and a twist of mystery and danger, make “Fast Track” a good and enjoyable read.
