For the very longest time, I’ve wanted to read Carla Neggers and finally, finally was able to do so, with “Echo Lake”, the fourth in the Swift River Valley Series. The waiting was worth it, the first read was pure delight and Agent Hancock and the resident builder Heather Sloan are just perfect for each other, with a life with each other.

EchoLake-SwiftRiverValley4-CarlaNeggers-Jan2015

DSS Agent Brody Hancock returns to Knights Ridge at the behest of his diplomat friend Vic Scarletti. Eighteen long years has changed a lot in Knights Bridge, yet nothing has changed. The essence of a small town has not changed, but Heather Loan sure had grown up into a lady giving him sleepless nights. There are a few things in his life at Knights Bridge that need to be put to rest, before he can succumb to his love for Heather.

Heather Sloan is the only girl and youngest of the Sloan clan, and helps with their construction business. So renovating the stately 1912 country home of Vic Scarletti is a great opportunity for her family business, and for her as she heads the project. But she did not budget in the fact that Brody Hancock could skyrocket her heart to a different proposal.

Set against the New England winter, Echo Lake is a charming story of love, patience and family. It is a beautiful story of two wonderful people meant to be together. And it is a captivating story steeped in emotions, love, subtle humor and unconditional support of family and friends.

“Disarming Detective” is the first in the Lawmen Series by Elizabeth Heiter and of course my first of reading her writing. Again, the first timer sure caught me by surprise.

Detective Logan Greer is in desperate need of having a profiler when a body was discovered in his small town of Oakville, FL; a desperation that brings him face to face with Isabella Cortez, a FBI profiler. Instead of heading to California on a vacation with her friends, she ends up going to Oakville, to help Logan in an unofficial capacity, just because the case comes very close to being the Fishhook Killer that she was pursuing for years.

DisarmingDetective-ElizabethHeiter-Jan2015

With Logan’s gut instinct that there is a serial killer at large, and the death hitting very close to home, he needs all of Isabella’s expertise to catch the killer. Isabella on the other hand wants to bring a closure to her own trauma of her best friend being kidnapped by the killer and wants to bring the evil to rest.

As sparks ignite between the detective and the profiler, the case takes a bizarre turn. With more questions than answers, Logan and Isabella try to keep their attraction at bay. As danger and death dog the town of Oakville, Logan and Isabella succumb to their desires. And as they get closer to the killer, their future may burn to the ground.

“Disarming Detective” is definitely an interesting read. There were a few pages in the middle of the story where I felt it was dragging a tad bit as if the writer was wondering where do I take this story, but then it picks up pace and keeps going.

Elizabeth does a fine job, disarming her readers with Logan and Isabella, and doesn’t disappoint at all.

I’ve never read Donna Hill, and this is an absolute first for me. “The Way You Love Me” is a charming and an appealing love story of Justin Lawson and Bailey Sinclair.

Bailey Sinclair drops out of law school to take care of her siblings after her mother dies, and there is no father in the picture. She works two jobs to make ends meet, take care of her wayward siblings and try to save penny by penny to go back to law school. Very hardworking and friendly, she never lets the hardships in life take her down and neither does she want to depend on a man who can control her and her goals. So the surprise encounter with a charismatic stranger in the bar she works comes as a total surprise as she is instantly attracted to him.

TheWayYouLoveMe-DonnaHill-Jan2015

Justin Lawson comes from the rich Lawson legacy and is one of the most eligible bachelors of Baton Rouge. Following his own destiny of wanting to be an attorney and help the under privileged, he refuses to follow his political legacy. He falls for Bailey instantaneously, but he sure has his job cut out for him, to bring down the walls that Bailey had built around her.

As Bailey and Justin spend time together and succumb to their passion, Bailey needs to get over her insecurities and trust Justin with her heart. And Justin, a by-product of his lovingly large rich family, has to build a convincing case that with love, support and trust, two deserving people from opposite ends of a spectrum can have future together.

Donna Hill makes us fall for the Lawson Clan with her simple, loving and no drama romance of two wonderful people who are meant to be together. “The Way You Love Me” sure makes it an enjoyable read.

I’ve always liked Sarah Morgan and her sweet romantic stories. They are charming as the fuzzies of romance, deep with emotions and intensity and characters that take you on a roller coaster ride of laughter and tears.

Lily Rose believes in love to the very end of her soul. Despite being an orphan and tossed around, despite being bitten and betrayed, despite being a sick and unwanted child, she believes in fairy tale love and happy endings. Archeologist by daytime and moon-lighting as a cleaner to pay her student loans, she is one heck of a sweet, lovable, positive person, who cannot keep from talking nineteen to the dozen if her life depended on it…. and is all alone!

PlayingByTheGreekRules-Jan2015

Enters Nik Zervakis, her infamous Greek playboy/billionaire employer and their first time encounter is wet and hot! Nik Zervakis is anti-family, anti-emotions, anti-love, and runs in the opposite direction of any woman who sheds a tear. But Lily stops him in his tracks and he agrees to be her rebound sex toy and teach her how to wear Kevlar vest to ward off emotions, love and pain.

An agreement of just sex takes Nik and Lily on a journey of turbulent emotions as both try to get over a painful past and belong with each other. Nik fights hard not to fall in love, and Lily is just looking to become someone’s favorite person, for a lifetime. Rules get thrown out the window and the heart rules this game of love.

“Playing By The Greek’s Rules” is a charismatic story of rib tickling dialogues, of empathy and support and getting past barriers for a future together. There were sections of Lily’s past that tears you up, yet keeps a smile on the lips with her enthusiasm and zest for life.

And hello Puffin Island – here we come!!!!

Silver James is another first time author for me, and “Cowgirls Don’ t Cry” (Red Dirt Royalty Series) sure caught my attention. An emotional ride into the cowboy country, one sassy and tenacious cowgirl lassoing a rich cowboy turned attorney, was one hot bumpy gallop into the romantic sunset.

CowgirlsDontCry-RedDirtRoyalty-SilverJames-Jan2015

Cassidy Morgan is reeling under the death of her father, a father she had not seen for a year, a father that she believed was disappointed in her choice of life, and a father who lover her death and wanted to give her a legacy to move forward. And that very legacy is now threatened for foreclosure by an avenging gazillionaire, with an old debt to be settled with her father. Chance meeting with Chance Barron, has Cassidy losing her heart before she comes to know his true identity and Cassidy has only herself to rely on to take care of mess.

As the son of the said gazillionaire, and attorney, Chance Barron sees Cassidy by chance and is enthralled by her. He falls hard and fast and furious for Cassidy. But when the nasty reality of what his father wants to accomplish hits him, he refuses to heed his father’s warnings and betray the woman he has fallen in love with. But can he withstand the onslaught of his father’s rage and loss?

This is one fast paced ride as the courageous and smart Cassidy thinks outside the box to solve her problems, and a sexy and super smart attorney making sure he paves the way for the love of his life to win the war. Chance is one imperfect guy who is torn between the father and his ladylove, loyalty and love, right and wrong, and is smart enough to make the right decision when the time came. Cassidy is just an amazing firecracker of a cowgirl who never calls it quits and makes her father proud by taking care of the ones that matter in life and saving the ranch.

A definite great read and a definite encore of Silver James in my future reading list
