The Cowboy – Not For Me

“The Cowboy” Jake Richardson maybe at home in his Australian outback, but the city slick Carina Chapman is way out of her league in his territory, and so was I.

TheCowboy-HotAussieHero1-MargaretaOsborn-Jan2015

Book one in the Hot Aussie Heroes; “The Cowboy” unfortunately just did not ride my senses. Jake wants to diversify into tourism to keep his lands, and he’s struggling to get it all together. Carina ends up at his work in progress resort, as a result of a wrong booking by her assistant.

If I really think about it, the premise of the story is good, but the development of the story did not sit well with me. For a city girl from New York, who revels in her daily comforts, hates snakes and crawly things, less than a week is way too short to fall in love with an Australian cowboy and decide to stay back with him.

I haven’t read Margareta Osborn before “The Cowboy”, and just because this story did not reel in my senses doesn’t mean I will not go back for more. I actually liked her writing, diction and grasp of telling a story. But I felt that the narration was too short for the story to unfold properly and develop the relationship between Jake and Carina. The HEA was too fast and too soon.

Another first of reading a new Australian writer/author, Victoria Purman, and book four of the series Hot Aussie Heroes, “The Millionaire” is a short and a good one time read.

TheMillionaire-HotAussieHero4-VictoriaPurman-Jan2015

Chris Malone is a world famous photographer and is on vacation incognito or so he thinks. Tired of the travelling all over the planet, photographing the horrors of the world and living out of suitcases, hotels and camps has taken a toll on Chris and all he wants to do recuperate and stay away from the eyes of the public, even if it means to be a total ass about it.

Journalist Ellie Flannery sees Chris Malone her idol on a lonely beach and takes the chance to request his help for her fundraiser. Unfortunately idols can be idiots in real life! Chris refuses and the incident goes viral. What starts of as damage control, leads to Chris enjoying Ellie and her joy for life. And Ellie soon sees the generous and broken man underneath his touch exterior, and she wants to spend her life with him.

Short and nice, “The Millionaire” is an appealing read as it takes you on the ride along with Ellie and Chris, as they try to get past insecurities and make a future with each other. Ellie with some past inflicted pain is a bounty of positivity and a heart of gold, always wanting to help someone. Chris as the millionaire and wanting put roots with Ellie, and have the whole family deal is endearing.

Victoria Purman did a fine job with Ellie and Chris and the story had enough love, emotions and good narration to keep you reading her works.

The second book in the Hot Aussies Heroes Series is co-written by Amy Andrews, and I thoroughly enjoyed this passionate ride across the hot Australian desert, as “The Hero” goes after his heroine.

TheHero-HotAussieHero2-AmyAndrews-Jan2015

Edwina Calloway and Justine Wilde were once co-stars in a popular TV show, before Justine moved to Hollywood pastures. They are now coming together after four years, to take part in celebrity car rally to raise funds for a worthy cause.

Justine had always been in love with Edwina, but kept his distance to respect her and her marriage. But now that she’s single, all bets are off and he has every intention of making his, and keeping her forever in his life. Edwina had always felt the instant pull towards Justine, and like him, had never acted on it by choice. But now that she’s got her messy marriage behind her, she is free to be with Justine.

I loved this story for the depth of its characters. Justine and Ed were so much in love with each other yet had enough respect for the circumstances around them. As short is the story, Amy Andrews sure made their feelings an open book, as they struggled to overcome roadblocks and insecurities. You can’t help but fall in love with these two precious people with hearts of gold, and put their needs on the back burner as long as they can. And I really liked how Amy brought into picture the life of artists and how much they are open to scrutiny and judgment.

This was one hot ride of love, passion and a promise of a future with happiness and laughter, and I really, really enjoyed The Hero…and his heroine!

Okay…am now totally smitten by the Wildflower Ranch Series by Alissa Callen, and this is only my second read of hers. Under the big skies of Montana, Alissa Callen packs quite an intoxicating punch of charm and charisma. Be it her wonderful characters, with such big hearts and care, or the story itself seeped in emotions of love and trust.

HerBigSkyCowboy-WildflowerRanch3-AlissaCallen

Speech therapist Trinity Redfern is running a summer program for youngsters, and Finn Nash is one of her favorites, along with his father Zane Nash. With a heart as big as the Montana sky, Trinity is one of the most lovable characters I have come across. Warm, friendly, caring and yet assertive is how she keeps her students in line, but when it comes to her personal Mr. Right, he seems to be just elusive to her. And Mr. Wrong just doesn’t seem to leave her alone.

The reserved and sexy Zane Nash is thrown a curve ball, when he becomes an instant father to Finn, a responsibility he takes seriously as running his successful ranch. But Finn and Zane have a lot to catch up on, as five-year-old Finn is not very talkative and has become withdrawn. Zane starts relying more and more on Trinity, as Finn starts opening himself to Trinity, little realizing that opening his heart would also be a balm to his hurting heart and can be very fulfilling.

All I can say is Alissa Callen has really, really put her heart and soul in creating Zane and Trinity. Simple, warm, caring and just two beautiful people, trying to sort the ripples of emotion they create with each other, and find the trust and confidence to be with each other.

Loaded in sentiment, brimming with some painful yet a sweet past, with surprises and twists, and visiting with some of the charismatic Montana friends, “Her Big Sky Cowboy” is just as precious as “Her Mistletoe Cowboy”.

And now it’s time for me to catch up with the other sexy cowboys and their intended sassy women that Alissa has created, including Payton and Cordell (Cherish Me, Cowboy, Wildflower Ranch 1). I sure hope there are more love stories coming to the wonderful inmates of the Wildflower Ranch Series.

Here comes another first for me – Alissa Callen. And she caught my interest with my first read of her WildFlower Ranch Series.

Winter and silver skies, tinsel and lights, hot chocolate and gingerbread, mistletoes and Christmas trees, second chances and love – is what “Her Mistletoe Cowboy” (Book 2), is all about. Corporate Analyst, Ivy Bishop comes away to the little town of Marietta to heal her heart and decide the next phase of her life. Falling into the magic of Christmas and she never expects to get a surprise package of love in the sexy Rhett Dixon.

HerMistletoeCowboy-Montana3-AlissaCallen-Dec2014

Rhett Dixon happens to be her knight in shining armor, when she needed help the first time she couldn’t get into her ancestral home and lands on the threshold of Rhett Dixon. Ex- Rodeo rider Rhett has some ghosts to exorcise and a promise that needs to be fulfilled. Ivy was never a part of his plan, and yet once he sees her, all he can think is of her.

With a past connecting both Rhett and Ivy, with sparks igniting between them, and stolen kisses under the mistletoes, both get carried away to a magical land called love. Alissa Callen does such a charming job with Rhett and Ivy. Sometimes it’s so lovely to read stories with just the protagonists and a handful of supporting characters.

This is a wonderful love story of two people, believing in second chances and trusting each other to get past their insecurities and build a future. Very warm, sweet and a perfect happy read!
