For the uninitiated readers, “Her Grave Secrets” is the third book in the Rogue River Series, co-written by Kendra Elliot and Melinda Leigh. The first two books are “On Her Father’s Grave” (Kendra Elliot) and “Gone To Her Grave” (Melinda Leigh). So my recommendation is to definitely read in sequence.

“Her Grave Secrets”, is a great continuation as it seems to head into a final showdown with very surprising revelations. I love the way both the writers have kept their unique skills of narration, yet bring the story together in each book they write. The suspense is brilliant, romance sublime and the characters have turned out to be fabulous, with their own personal issues and insecurities, yet supportive of each other.

More secrets……darker and deeper……murky waters and evil…..web of evil getting tighter and tighter……

And that is how the second book in the Rogue River Series, “Gone To Her Grave”, embroils us into more questions than answers. Innocent lives seem to be threatened, and an unknown drug has the town of Solitude in a grip of danger and death.

GoneToHerGrave

Carly Taylor, a social worker in Solitude goes to the rescue of a teen caught in a vicious grip of murder and drugs. Against her estranged husband’s word, Seth Harding who happens to be running the investigation, Carly gets caught in the crossfire of danger with no resolution to the issue.

Seth Harding loves his wife more than anything in the world, and constantly lives with the fear of losing her. He can’t seem to understand Carly or her desire to protect these troubled children, and this been the bone of contention separating them in marriage. But now with Carly in danger, and the town in the grips of an unknown drug, Seth is going to do his damn best to make sure Carly stays alive, with him forever no matter what.

Co-written by Kendra Elliot and Melinda Leigh, experts of suspense and thrillers, Rogue River Series is a four-part novella, taking us into the dark side of Solitude. With emotions and danger on the rise, passion and relationships tested, and strange deaths and disappearances on the menu, “Gone To Her Grave” leads us into the third book of the series….with more menace and peril.

“On Her Father’s Grave” starts off with a bang, leading the series Rogue River,” co-written by Kendra Elliot and Melinda Leigh. Two of the most prolific thriller writers of today, Rogue River Series, are set in the small town of Solitude, OR.

Stevie Taylor returns to her hometown after her father, the town’s Police Chief passes away due to a heart attack. Having survived some gruesome crimes in LAPD as a cop, Stevie wants nothing more than to stay away from the past pain and reconnect with her roots as a patrol office in her hometown.

Her return coincides with the death of a teenager under suspicious circumstances, and with the meeting of Zane Duncan, the new Chief of Police. In a town where everyone knows everyone, and everyone keeps everyone in sight, Stevie and Zane have to team up to get to the bottom of these death as there seem to be more bodies turning up. The flare of desire and chemistry that ignites between Stevie and Zane is a sure surprise for both, but something that they both like to take it further.

I always love the way Kendra etches her characters. She gives them so many layers of depth and individuality; it’s like peeling an onion, as you get to know their strengths and weaknesses, one layer a time. Kendra does a brilliant job of keeping the narration open and pure, with feelings and emotions decked out, with a hint of secrets that may divide the small town, and keeping the essence of a small town’s thinking and beliefs. The aura of anticipation as to what’s going to happen next or the blossoming relationship between Stevie and Zane, only adds more excitement to the story. On Her Father’s Grave keeps you glued until the last page.

The icing on the cake and this shows the prowess of a seasoned writer, is how she manages not to leave it as a cliffhanger, yet she makes us yearn and moan for more. The desire to get to the next book is so strong, that no reader will be able to resist getting to the next three books…. not a chance!

These are short novellas of four in the series, with Kendra working one end of an angle featuring Stevie and Zane, and Melinda caricaturing Carly and Seth from the other end, both teams with one single goal to get to the evil behind the killings by an unidentified drug.

Can’t wait to read how Melinda Leigh’s given life to the characters of Carly Taylor and Seth Harding in the second book, “Gone To Her Grave”.

The Bones Lady has done it again! Kendra spins a tale as smooth as silk, soft as velvet and comes up with a storm.

The disappearance of an 11-year-old girl brings FBI agent Ava McLane and local detective Mason Callahan under one roof. For Callahan, this is personal, as the missing girl happens to be the stepdaughter of his ex-wife.

Two mothers, two dads and another’s child!!!  The Fairbanks family is no screaming divorce family from TV, everyone gets along well with each other…. stepdad has positive things to say about cop dad.

So what is the motive for Henley Fairbanks being kidnapped? And that is the 323-page question. Kendra’s done a brilliant job of keeping that suspense until it was time to be revealed. Each page was a revelation of bits of information as the law enforcement tries to piece the puzzle together. And as the puzzle starts to fall into place, the emotions and secrets of the family come to light. And as the past and the present collide, Ava and Mason try to understand their growing feelings for each other.Image

“What would you do if I kissed you right now, Agent McLane?” he drawled. Special Agent McLane ticked a lot of his boxes. Boxes he’d never known existed. And right now, he wanted to see what kind of flames they could create.

Mason and Ava are Kendra’s crowning glory. Dedicated to their job, focus in their quest for justice, despite issues in their lives, they create enough ripples of passion and intimacy as they try to get to know each other. This is just the beginning of a relationship that will go through a journey of ups and downs as they deal with personal baggage. But nowhere does the lust and passion take away from the desperation and pain of a family trying to get their daughter back or the grave and critical situation of the kidnapping, as the FBI races against time to get to the bottom of it.

He believed in Karma. His plan hadn’t gone completely as expected….It was time for the next phase.

I really, really, really was in the perpetrator’s corner of sympathy. More than evil, it’s just Elliot’s powerful narration of feelings and helplessness, that takes us on a thrilling ride to a final showdown, a showdown that had me so mixed up with emotions of sadness and the unfairness of life.

“Do you remember asking me if I’ve ever loved someone where the emotion was totally out of my control? Where someone physically feels the other person moving about in the other world? That exact feeling is growing inside of me. I’ve felt precisely what you described, and I want to continue to experience it everyday with you.”

With a lot of twists and turns, relations and trust put to test, and with a past that comes haunting out of the blue, “Vanished” is one book you don’t want to miss. And keep an eye out for more of Mason and Ava, a relationship that will evolve through its natural course of life.
