The Aegis Series by Elisabeth Naughton just keeps getting bolder, deadlier and sizzling, lethal combinations to readers like me. The second book in the series “Lethal Consequences” is another adrenaline ride of danger, terror and a love that fights to the very end.

Three months after being rescued by Aegis and her sister, Olivia Wolfe can’t forget Landon Miller and his protective blanket that enveloped her. From being a reserved schoolteacher, she suddenly takes off to Barcelona on a whim to be with Landon. They have kept in touch the past three months, and she cannot get him out of her system and she does want to explore that relationship with him.LethalConsequences-Aegis2-ElisabethNaughton-Jan 2015

Landon Miller’s days as an Aegis operative are numbered, as he is headed back to DIA. The sudden appearance of Olivia at his hotel throws him for a loop. Unfortunately the circumstances lead to Olivia storming out, and from that moment on things go from bad to ugly in seconds. A past op catches up with Landon, and Olivia gets in the crosshairs of a deadly terrorist group trying to get information about bioweapons.

And the chase is on as Landon and Olivia beat odds to keep breathing as Aegis steps in to recover them. But the danger refuses to leave them, and in the midst of life threatening situation, the spark of love and lust ignites the passion into full-blown fireworks. As they race to find the antidote to the deadly bioweapon, Landon and Olivia need to believe in the power of love to save their present to make a future with each other.

Elisabeth Naughton is a fabulous writer of romantic suspense, and “Lethal Consequences” is just another testimony of her writing prowess. Landon and Olivia make daunting partners as they battle death and an endearing couple as they succumb to the love that they have been fighting.

Fast, gritty, heart pumping and definitely lethal!!

I’ve read Carolyn Brown and have always liked her stories and narration. I’ve fallen in love with some of her sweet and light romantic stories. Unfortunately “Daises In The Canyon”, just did not work for me.

Abby Malloy is an ex-army sergeant who’s father Ezra Malloy passes away leaving his ranch as her legacy along with her two stepsisters. Coming to the Malloy ranch to claim her rights, her father’s will constitutes her to spend at least one year along with her stranger sisters, to learn ranching and to decide the fate of the ranch after one year.

DaisiesInTheCanyon-CarolynBrown-Dec2014

Sheriff Cooper Wilson is her next-door neighbor and a good friend of her father’s. Along with keeping justice in the town, he is smitten by Abby and wants to keep her in Palo Duro Canyon, and reassure her of a secure future and his love.

It should have been a simple love story with the local town hotshot sheriff Cooper falling for the wing born Abby, and it should have been a pleasant read. But the characters lacked depth and the narration lacked conviction. The story was not really threaded in to keep the interest of the reader and the series of events together. There was just too much dialogue and constant activity for me to play the scenes in my mind’s eye or keep my mind from roving. And I felt that Abby and Cooper fell for each other way too soon without a proper justification leading to it.

I am not sure if I will complete this book, for now I couldn’t go further. And that doesn’t in any way deter me from reading Carolyn Brown.

Don’t think I’ve read this many new authors in a span of few months and adding Tiffany Snow to that list of interesting discoveries with her “In His Shadow”, book one of Tangled Ivy Trilogy.

Ivy Mason has built a life far away from a past that had painful memories. Working in a bank, she hides behind a steady job, and a routine that brings stability and structure to her life. Sharing an apartment with her childhood friend Logan, and with her life revolving around her job and a handful of friends, she has no clue that bumping into Devon would throw her life into a fast and furious ride.

InHisShadow-TangledIvy-TiffanySnow-Dec2014

Devon works as an agent for an underground British agency called the ‘Shadow’, and true to that name he leads a life in the murky and dangers of evil walking the world. He is after a man believed to have a vaccine for a deadly virus that is being targeted to be unleashed into the population, and Devon is chasing down the terrorists to stop it. Ivy ends up in the crosshairs of this dangerous mission when a customer at her bank is murdered, and she unwittingly gets linked with life threatening events and Devon.

As Devon protects Ivy, she falls for him. As Ivy tries to fathom the mystery that Devon is, he wants Ivy with a desire that knows bounds; despite the threat his profession carries. Loyalties are tested, trust becomes a heavy price to pay, and passion is an addiction that cannot be cured. Ivy is courageous and brave enough to test the waters of the evil and sacrifice for her love. Devon would go to the ends of the earth to keep Ivy at his side…forever.

“In His Shadow”, takes you on a ride of adrenaline rush, with evil lurking in the shadows and international struggle for power and control. A couple of times I felt there was a break in the flow of the story, but then the pace picks up and takes you to the end…yet not the end. This really doesn’t leave you with a cliffhanger, but clearly leaves you with the feeling of more coming.

Devon and Ivy sure have some unfinished business!!!

A very good read that definitely holds interest and leaves you wanting more…

I love when writers/authors progress from their very first published work to a current state of confidence. I feel proud for them and of them. When I started reading Melinda Leigh with her first book “She Can Run”, as much as I was taken in by her writing, there was still an edge of rawness and the freshness of a novice. But now, as I read her new series Scarlet Falls, the progress is spectacular and her narration is seeped in conviction and self-confidence.

“Hour Of Need” leads her new series Scarlet Falls and starts off the story with a devastating double murder of well-known couple Lee and Kate Barrett. A shocking event that shatters the peace of the tiny sleepy town of Scarlet Falls, and brings Major Grant Barrett from the front lines of Afghanistan to a family reeling under the loss of loved ones, and to an orphaned niece and nephew.

HourOfNeed-ScarletFalls1-Dec2014

As much as the murder is a mystery, the attempted kidnapping of the kids and her daughter puts Ellie Ross right in the middle of the Barrett family and their crusade in finding the truth. As the family rallies around the kids to protect them, a past murder rears its ugly head, bringing more danger and secrets from the grave. Even as Ellie and Grant find themselves falling for each other, the killer gets too close for comfort, putting Ellie’s family in danger as his demands spike.

Racing against time to unravel the secrets in the sleepy town, the Barrett family rediscover themselves in the process. Melinda does a fine job of exploring human relationships in the midst of a crisis, and the importance of family, love and support, despite distances that may come between them

“Hour Of Need” is not a nail biting, falling of the edge, adrenaline filled thriller. It is the story of a normal family going through the turmoil of a life disrupted by unexplained murders. It is the story of a family with brains and courage wanting to put an end to the unexplained and it is the story of a family who would protect their own, yet doing the right things within their means.

Equal measures of suspense, love and courage give this story a great start for becoming another fabulous series, just proving Melinda’s prowess as a romantic mystery writer.

It looks like the town of Solitude, Oregon, may finally put the evil lurking in the dark to rest. “Walking On Her Grave” is the fourth installment, in the thrilling and suspenseful Rogue River Series, co-written by Kendra Elliot and Melinda Leigh.

With sleepy Solitude as Ground Zero for a new drug that is taking lives of prominent citizens of the town, Carly and Seth are caught in the crossfires of danger along with Stevie and Zane as they race against time to put an end to the manufacturers and the distributors.

WalkingOnHerGrove-RogueRiver4-Nov2014

A key teenage witness disappears, and Carly is thrown into danger as she tries to find the boy before he ends up dead. Seth wants to keep his wife away from harm’s way, but with everyone in the town been a suspect, its hard to trust or depend on anyone.

When Seth and Carly get too close to identifying the killer, Seth gets too close to death and Carly realizes she’s never stopped loving Seth and she can’t live without him in her life. Now they have to race against time to bring the killer to justice before Seth and Carly can get a second chance at making their marriage work, and keep their family together.

Walking On Her Grave gives a fitting end to the Rogue River Series. It is a brilliant compilation of four stories, as emotions and relationships are explored, trust and love is put to test, and loyalty and duty goes beyond normal.

For the uninitiated or new readers, this series would be a great start to get to know two wonderful authors/writers.
