Here’s another fabulous author/writer who takes great pleasure in keeping her readers entertained with her varied genre of books, from romance to suspense. Brenda Novak’s been one of my favorite writers/authors for a while and her Whiskey Creek Series infamous for giving us plenty of stories.

TheHeartOfChrismas-BrendaNovak-Oct2014

“The Heart Of Christmas” holds Eve Harmon close to heart as the people of Whiskey Creek, CA keeps their own protected and safe. Eve runs a B&B and has a very strong and loyal support of friends, friends who are almost all married and some with children. Her thirty fifth birthday brings melancholy and sadness as she feels that her life is what is now, not able to find the right guy; have a family and kids like her friends. And this birthday she wakes with a stranger in her bed!

Brent Taylor ( aks Rex and other names) is passing through Whiskey Creek, running away from ghosts that refuse to leave him alone. One night with Eve and he is more than attracted to her. But with a dangerous past on his heels, all he can give Eve is lies and love, but no commitment. As he falls more and more into Eve’s love and understanding, his lies catch up to the truth and he has not choice but confess to Eve, risking all that he has come to treasure.

As Eve tries to come to grips with Rex’s reality, her whole team of coffee-friends rallies around her with support and love. Another great story from Brenda Novak, as she pens the pain, frustration and anguish of Rex, to the emotions of loneliness and love of Eve. The Heart Of Christmas takes us on a journey of love and passion, pain and guilt, support and solidarity of a small town, that believes in the magic of Christmas and miracles.

Anyone who knows Susan Mallery, will know her Fool’s Gold Series. As quaint as the name of the town, so are her stories set in Fool’s Gold, golden and charming; a perfect blend of unconditional love, support and friendship.

ChristmasOn4thStreet-SusanMallery-Oct2014

Army doctor Gabriel Boylan comes to Fool’s Gold to recuperate from an injury and also reconnect with his brother Gideon. For him the holidays carry bittersweet memories of a past filled with pain and anger. Yet all is not in vain, as he comes across Noelle Perkins, perky, smart and always keeping a smile and trying to make others laugh.

Noelle Perkins lands in Fool’s Gold by the prick of a pin, and hasn’t regretted one moment of it. Enfolded into the warmth and love of Fool’s Gold, she embraces the second chance that life was kind enough to give. Running her own store The Christmas Attic, she loves every breath of her life. With amazing friends for support, maybe this Christmas, she may find her partner in love.

With weddings on the horizon, and relationships to be mended and forgiven, Gabriel and Noelle find themselves falling for each other. But even as Noelle accepts her feelings, Gabriel is far from putting roots and that too in Fool’s Gold. But as Gideon says, Fool’s Gold gets to you eventually, maybe Gabriel can find that support and love from Noelle and she may vey well be his roots for a new future.

Another lovely story by Susan Mallery, and it’s wonderful to revisit the characters from her previous books. Another golden winner from her basket.

Lori Foster and her sinful writings; stories of alpha males and sassy females; pleasure and pain all wrapped into presents of fun, witty and remarkable reads.

Charade” is two individual stories Impetuous (1995) and Outrageous (1997), republished under one title, but keeping the original titles within. Good for me as both are non-reads and I thoroughly enjoyed both the books, although Impetuous was my favorite of the two.

Charade-LoriFoster-Oct2014

A dashing pirate and a ravishing harem girl come together in “Impetuous” giving us a sizzling read of two complete opposites being attracted. Tyler Ramsey falls head over heels for Carlie McDaniels and they have one sensual night of pleasure and passion. Tyler is clueless to the identity of the luscious beauty and Carlie likes to keep it that way. Circumstances bring Tyler and Carlie to work with kids after school, and Tyler slowly realizes he is falling in love with the frumpy Carlie and yet feels guilty remembering the harem girl. Carlie gave up her heart to Tyler already and yet her insecurities keep Tyler at bay. Now it’s to be seen if that one night of recklessness can give them a chance at a future of love and trust.

Now, time for a male stripper, Judd Sanders“Outrageous”-ly handsome and strips Emily Cooper of her bearings. Working undercover in a strip club, Judd is hunting the killer who had put bullets into his father figure Max, and Emily with all her sophistication and money is trying to blend into the dark side searching for the guy who is selling faulty guns making her brother one of the victims. Judd saves her ass from getting killed and both end up under one roof in the name of danger and protection. Outrageous as it seems to Emily’s parents, there is no less passion and chemistry between these two, and sure scorched the sheets. Enough to make a future is the big question.

Two fun reads for a perfect weekend or with a mug of delicious hot chocolate!

As I battle a nasty cold, a poem that I had rendered during my middle school days came to mind, not that I had ever forgotten about it. I had to do some research on the internet to get to this particular poem…..had so many fond memories of recitals, competitions, winnings and best of all, my friends from yester-years still remember this….tickles me pink :D.

Thought I would share this here……a part of my early life…

The Common Cold, the Common Cold
The doctors really must be told
It’s really time that they controlled
The horrors of the Common Cold.
I love the doctors – they are dears;
But must they spend such years and years
Investigating such a lot
Of illnesses which no one’s got.
When everybody, young and old
Is frantic with the Common Cold
And I will eat my only hat
If they know anything of that
Mark with what long and patient care
The doctor studies what is rare
He cannot do too much for you
If you have something strange and new.
Nor can he quite conceal his bliss
If it should chance to end in ‘is’.
Moreover, if the thing’s obscure
He may be slow but he is sure
He knows the perfect pill or paint
For every tropical complaint
Which is not likely to occur
In Battersea or Westminster
But there are fortunately few
Who suffer from the strange and new.
I do not know a single case
Of Indian Itch or Persian Face.
Nor do I think that I have met
A man with sleeping sickness yet.
But all of us have one disease —
We all sniff, snuffle, cough and sneeze.
The Common Cold. The Common Cold!
If all the populace was polled
A large majority I’m told
Would register the Common Cold.
This is the universal plague
And here I find the doctor vague.
To poly-this and poly-that
He plays a straight and pretty bat
But when it is the Common Cold
The man is absolutely bowled.
And you would think that Harley Street
Would be ashamed of this defeat.
You’d think, I say, that here and now
The Street would vow a holy vow —
“Whatever any doctor’s at
We will desist from doing that
No more inquire the cause of twins
And stop inventing Vitamins.
And drawing teeth and drawing fees
Till we have done for this disease.
“We will not sleep, we will not eat
Nor shave the face nor wash the feet
Nor shall our boots be heeled and soled
Till we have killed the Common Cold.”
But if, in fact, you chance to meet
A specialist on Harley Street
And say to him “Look here. Behold!
I have – again — the Common Cold.”
The gentleman will only stare.
He really does not seem to care.
He then remarks, without remorse
“Oh, Well, the thing must take its course.”
But I reply with frank chagrin
“Why must the blasted thing BEGIN?”

Christmas’s always been a magical time of the year. It is perhaps the only time that people actually follow their natural impulses and express their true feelings and sentiments. With a smile on lips, and a heart open to the people we care, Christmas is possibly, the one time a guy can be himself, without being silly or self-conscious.

And maybe, just “Maybe This Christmas”, Tyler O’Neil can finally confess to himself and to Brenna Daniels, of his feelings he has for her, and had for the longest of time. From being a pro skier competing with the slopes and speed of destiny to becoming a Father to his teenage daughter Jess, Tyler has gone through years of pain, torment and anguish for what he had lost and what had become of his life. But with Jess in his life, he now has a purpose to reform and be a permanent Dad and a role model for his daughter. And when he is sure of something and wants it, he goes for it with an explosion of passion and commitment.

MaybeThisChristmas-ONeils3-SarahMorgan-Oct2014

Brenna Daniels literally grew up with the O’Neil’s since a kid and has loved Tyler that long. His name is carved into her heart; she accepts it with certainty as she accepts the fact that Tyler will always see her as his life-long friend and confidante, and nothing more. What is Christmas without some helpful and meddling elves, and Brenna and Tyler end up under one roof, much to the delight of the little imp Jess! And the sparks are being stoked…

From her first book in the O’Neil Brothers series, “Sleigh Bells In the Snow” (Jackson/Kayla), to her second “Suddenly Last Summer” (Sean/Elise) to her third, “Maybe This Christmas”, Sarah Morgan has grown by leaps and bounds with her writing. Not that she isn’t a good writer to begin with; it was different with this series. When I read her first book, I felt that she was holding something back, and with her second book; there was an openness and brevity in her expression. But the third is her best and my personal favorite, with her complete lack of inhibition in expressing feelings and dialogue for Tyler and Brenna.

Sarah Morgan does a tremendous job of creating a perfectly imperfect relationship with his daughter (hilarious and reminds me of the time my 12 yr. old asked her Dad what kind of flavored condoms he had used!!!!) as he tests the feelings between Brenna and him. I felt her heart and soul in every word she wrote! Both Tyler and Brenna are complex characters, but Sarah does a brilliant job of drawing out their emotions in equal parts. Clothed in layers of insecurity and uncertainty, tremors of rocking a solid friendship, Tyler and Brenna try to stay clear of those embers of passion and love, before it becomes a raging fire.

But it’s the season of magic and mistletoes, hot chocolate and twinkling lights, meddling family and support, love and laughter; all gearing up for the biggest wedding on the slopes of Snow Crystal Chalet.
