This is one of those really rare moments for me, of reading a debutant writer and appreciating her fabulous foray into becoming an outstanding writer/author. Mentored by Lori Wild (another writer I love to read), Rachel Lacey has done a beautiful job of unleashing her talent with her first book “Unleashed” the first in her Love To Rescue Series, and I can’t wait to dig into her second book already.
Cara Medlen is a wonderful nanny and a fanatical foster rescuer of animals, with a side of becoming a brilliant photographer. With a heart of gold and an ever-helping hand, Cara along with her friend Merry, is hell bent on saving and fostering as many animals as possible, even if it lands them into trouble. But she is on a 10-year plan of making things permanent in her life, be it her career, owning an animal, or getting attracted to a man, let alone her handsome neighbor. With only two more years left in her 10-year plan, she doesn’t count on falling for her sexy and helpful neighbor, and a lover of animals too!
Matt Dumont is a private investigator trying to wrap up one last case before moving home to be close to his ill mother. But the attractive animal lover next door is giving him sleepless nights and making his departure so much more difficult. With a past betrayal and pain still fresh, Matt wants to stay away from the funny, gorgeous and caring animal lover, but fate seems to have a different plan for him.
Circumstances land them under one roof, and the flickering passion ignites into flames that both can’t resist. Even as they confess their feelings for each other, their lives seem to be on different paths. As a past painful issue rears its ugly head, will Cara be able to let Matt support her with his love and understanding, and will Matt be able to put her fears to rest by giving his trust and heart to Cara.
A wonderful story brimming with so much laughter, positivity and love that you can’t help fall in love with Cara and Matt. Rachel Lacey is definitely on my list of repeat writers.
Looking forward to the sassy Merry Atwater in “For Keeps”
For the uninitiated readers, “Her Grave Secrets” is the third book in the Rogue River Series, co-written by Kendra Elliot and Melinda Leigh. The first two books are “On Her Father’s Grave” (Kendra Elliot) and “Gone To Her Grave” (Melinda Leigh). So my recommendation is to definitely read in sequence.
So the saga of danger and death continues in the small town of Solitude. A deadly drug called C-22 is making its appearance in the dead bodies showing up in Solitude. Since the death of Stevie’s father, who was the sheriff of Solitude, there has been a string of strange deaths and Stevie along with the new sheriff, Zane are trying to get to the bottom of this evil.
As the love between Zane Duncan and Stevie Taylor blossoms, so is the evil lurking in the shadows. Stevie and Zane along with Seth, are trying to uncover the mystery surrounding some of the prime residents of Solitude. As the pieces of the puzzle seem to fall into place, there are more questions than answers. And when Zane gets hurt as another piece of the puzzle falls into place, but some old secrets also come to light. When her father’s death is bordered on homicide, Stevie knows that they need to double their efforts and become more vigilant before more innocent people get hurt.
“Her Grave Secrets”, is a great continuation as it seems to head into a final showdown with very surprising revelations. I love the way both the writers have kept their unique skills of narration, yet bring the story together in each book they write. The suspense is brilliant, romance sublime and the characters have turned out to be fabulous, with their own personal issues and insecurities, yet supportive of each other.
Received an ARC from Montlake Romance via Netgalley for a honest review
It’s always a pleasure to read Catherine Bybee….always! She takes us into a world of sweet romance, loss and forever, with a healthy dose of reality….just the kind of stuff we readers need for a rainy day. “Not Quite Forever” (Book 4 – Quite Series) takes us along the journey with Dr. Walt Eddy and the famous romance author Dakota Laurens to their Forever Land.
A mix up at a convention brings Walt and Dakota face to face and sparks ignite instantaneously. As different as chalk and cheese, their meeting is sweet as honey and sexy as silk and rich as velvet. Mutual attraction reels the procrastinating doctor and the over organized author into spending time with each other and into each other.
Dakota believes in romance and happily ever-afters, and the globetrotting doctor does a disappearing act haunted by a painful past. Circumstances bring them together after a short hiatus, and Walt confesses to himself his feelings for Dakota. But Dakota is already on the run from Walt to nurse a broken heart. With the support of some amazing friends and family, it’s up to Walt to convince Dakota he’s done running and ready to settle down.
With pages of sassy dialogues and steamy romance, disagreeable parents and nosy friends, holidays and sickness, Walt and Dakota sure tap dance around each other to finally get their forever. I love the way Catherine gives importance to the depth of relationships and the maturity of nurturing them with patience and love. The choreography of Dakota and Walt’s mother’s relationship was a delightful insight to read. Another charming read all the way!
