Meant For You Excerpt:

She dares to dream…
Summer Montgomery wants to be taken seriously almost as much as she wants her brother’s best friend, Ethan. But with a long resume of seemingly random career choices and a protective brother on watch, those things are nothing more than pipe dreams…

Does he dare to try?

Ethan Reed would like nothing more than to live by his own rules. Not wanting to disappoint his best friend Zach, or any of the Montgomerys, Ethan’s had to push his long-denied feelings for Summer aside. But it only takes one night away from watchful eyes to make impossible dreams come true…

Excerpt

“This trail is a little bit boring, don’t you think?” Summer asked several hours later as they made their way down a marked path.

“I hadn’t really thought of it that way. There’s so much to see—different kinds of birds and plants… The weather is just fantastic—perfect for hiking.” He reached out and took one of Summer’s hands in his. “And the company is perfect.”

“Aw, aren’t you sweet,” she cooed and pulled him close for a kiss and sighed. “It is a beautiful day and everything is really pretty to look at… I was just hoping to see a little something more.”

“More? Like what?”

“Oh, I don’t know. Deer. Bears. A moose. You know, wildlife.”

Beside her, Ethan chuckled. “Summer, trust me when I say that you do not want to have an up-close encounter with any of those animals.”

“I just was expecting something a little more exciting. The only wildlife I have seen is a squirrel. And he wasn’t even doing anything entertaining.”

“What were you expecting? For it to be juggling or something?” he teased.

“No,” she said with a pout. “Maybe. I don’t know.”

MeantForYou-Montgomerys5-Apr2015

Ethan pulled Summer into his embrace and took a moment to enjoy the feel of her in his arms. “What’s going on?” he asked softly.

“I don’t know… I feel like you’re always off doing these really cool, crazy things and that this seems a little tame for you.” She shrugged. “I’m not big on dangerous stuff, but I wanted us to have our own little adventure. Just the two of us.”

“Sweetheart, we’ve been having our own adventures for days,” he said and placed a kiss on the top of her head. “I don’t need an adventure. I just want to spend time with you.”

Summer looked up at him and smiled. “Really?”

He nodded. “Absolutely. I’m thankful that we have this time, without any prying eyes, just to get to know one another.”

“Ethan, we’ve known each other for years,” she said with a chuckle.

He shook his head. “No. The Summer Montgomery I knew was a girl. When you showed up at the office for the first time? I thought I was going to have a heart attack.”

“Really?” she purred and snuggled closer. “Do tell.”

“You’ve blossomed into this amazingly beautiful woman,” he said and kissed her temple. “I mean, you were always beautiful, but when you walked into my office that day, it was like you’d transformed. Gone was the young girl I always pictured when I thought of you and in her place was…” He pulled back and looked into her face. “You.” He sighed. “I look at you sometimes and it’s like I can’t breathe. And even standing here right now with you in my arms I can’t believe it’s real.”

“I feel that way, too,” she said quietly. “I’d had a crush on you for so long and you never noticed me and…”

“Wait, wait, wait… You had a crush on me?”

She rolled her eyes. “Oh come on, Ethan. You can’t tell me you didn’t know!” she said with a laugh. “Everyone knew! Hell, my brothers used to throw things at me to stop me from staring at you!”

Ethan stopped and thought about that for a moment and then started to laugh. “Seriously? That’s what that was about?

“What?”

“I remember your brothers always throwing stuff at you…popcorn, socks… I think I remember James throwing a basketball at you once and I thought it was odd.

“They told me I was being a nuisance.”

Shaking his head, Ethan continued to laugh. “Not to me, because clearly I didn’t even notice.”

“Thanks a lot!” she cried and went to pull away, but Ethan pulled her in close

“Don’t take it like that,” he said and wrapped his arms around her. “I just meant that I never knew. I always thought you were beautiful and sometimes I had to wonder if your brothers ever caught me staring at you.”

“I don’t know. Did they ever throw anything at your face for no reason?” she asked with a smirk.

“Not that I can remember. But it doesn’t matter. All I know is that you’re here now and I’m seeing you, Summer. Really seeing you.”

Her eyes went wide at his words and the sincerity behind them. “What do you see?”

“I see a woman I want to get to know better. A woman who is sexy and intelligent and just…everything.”

Brenda Novak has successfully tied this heart of mine into an emotional mess of sadness, helplessness and the sheer unfairness of a life that fate had the pleasure of ripping apart and throwing it to the wolves. Good people are not spared from the bad things that life loves throwing in our face.

Seventeen years of Phoenix Fuller’s young life has been behind bars due to an injustice and evidence based on her upbringing and social status. She loved Riley with all her heart in high school, and he was her first and would be her last. Unfortunately parental pressure and social boundaries make Riley break Phoenix’s heart before he realizes she’s pregnant. Phoenix may be alone, abandoned and had a miserable life with a hoarder for a mother, but she never was a murderer. And she never was responsible for the death of Riley’s girlfriend after their breakup.

ThisHeartOfMine-WhiskeyCreek-BrendaNovak

Seventeen years later, she’s back home in Whiskey Creek to meet her son for the first time. And what an emotional face off it was, through Brenda’s brilliant narration. It will make you cry with pain, it will make you scream with frustration for the unfairness of it and it will hurt your heart as Phoenix goes through emotions that only a mother can experience of having lost everything, yet gaining all at the barest of a smile from her son.

Riley Stinson had always loved Phoenix and seeing her again throws him into a state of confusion as his heart sparks love, and his brain goes in the opposite direction. He has done a wonderful job of raising Jacob alone, with humbleness and kindness that gives Jacob a chance to welcome his mother with an open mind and an open heart. But the road ahead is filled with so many hurdles as some people of Whiskey Creek are not so forgiving.

“This Heart Of Mine” is Phoenix all the way. This is a dedication to all women who have gone through adverse situations in their lives and have managed to come on the other side with strength, integrity and positivity to move forward. Phoenix is just an amazing personality with a big heart, always putting others ahead of her needs despite her adverse situation, a heart filled with love and friendship, you cannot help but feel every single emotion she goes through and cry with her and applaud her courage.

I knew as soon as I read the blurb that this is going to be an emotional story, but never would have guessed that this would make me cry right from the first page. Brenda Novak has always been one of my favorite writers, and personally I believe that “This Heart Of Mine” is her superlative best. There are so many small details and tender moments in the story that make you a part of Phoenix’s character, mind and soul.

This is a priceless story in time that gives hope for a future and faith in friendship, as it reiterates the fact that there still are good people left in this world…and that there are good people like Phoenix and Riley who will get a second chance of becoming a family.

And no words or reviews can do justice to this pure brilliance unless read on your own and it will knock your hearts out on March 31, 2015

I am not sure what I expected of Finn (Blue Collar Billionaires #2) by M. Malone, or maybe I had no expectations, or maybe it’s the sexy and beautiful specimen of a cover ;), whatever the case maybe Finn is quite the surprise package. Not too lengthy, but enough to pack a ton of emotions, pain and love to keep it interesting.

Finn-BlueCollorBillionaires2

Having come into millions that he never dreamed of, Finn Marshall is recuperating from serious war injuries and going through the pain of seeing his mother suffer from cancer. The war leaves too many scars and nightmares that had him finding solace in painkillers, and a past that haunts him with the betrayal of love that deserted him.

Marissa had made a few wrong choices in life like any normal person, yet she keeps a positive attitude and works hard to make her cleaning service company Maid-4-U successful. Getting a large contract to service a penthouse building is the silver lining her company needs to survive. But not knowing that her old flame Finn owns it and he’s hired her company for revenge is something that would blindside her.

Both have unresolved hurt between them that bites them in the back, even as they succumb to the lust and attraction that burns between them. Betrayal and trust are pricey and they have to believe in their love to put the past behind to even think of a future.

I really liked these two characters. Malone did a fabulous job with these two, as she created them with so many weaknesses, yet with courage to overcome pain and get help. Both with hearts of gold, and victims of circumstances, this story pulls you into their lives and their fight to keep their relationship working.

The storyline of these assorted brothers, with different mothers, as they try to come to grips with the reality of what their father had done, is very captivating. The sense of family and correcting the wrongs, as each brother try to reconcile with the existing circumstances, and finding their own happiness, is indeed intriguing.

A fine series by M. Malone…a definite winner!

TEASER:

“One night.” He reached out and rubbed his thumb across her lower lip.
His touch made her tremble and her nipples tightened into hardened points and the intensity in his gorgeous eyes had need building even stronger inside her.

“Is that what you want too?” he asked again, his gaze hot on hers.

His distinctive scent, a hint of musk she associated with Scott alone, filled her nostrils. Her stomach fluttered and the desire to wrap herself around him and take what he offered built until it was a tangible thing, living and breathing inside her tightly strung body.

She nodded, unable to speak. Her throat had grown too dry.

“I need you to say it.”

Say what? She didn’t remember his question. Only the thought of letting him into her apartment … into her body filled her mind and her senses.

A low rumble sounded from deep inside his chest. “Say … I want you, Scott. I need the words or I’ll send you inside alone.”

“I want you, Scott.” The words tumbled out, an easy capitulation that had been anything but. Another Meg Thompson decision she feared would alter the course of her life. And she was powerless to stop it.
