Dead No More – Ghostly Terror!!

There are very few writers that I hold in high regard and L.R Nicolello is definitely one of them. Writing is a laborious task that takes plenty of research, taking time away from family, endless dialogue with characters, and a detailed eye to the flow of the story. Some are born with the talent and harvest their skills with a passion and some hone their skills to get to that point. Nicolello is definitely from the first category and her books are an ultimate treasure trove of pure reading pleasure.

“Dead No More” brings us up close and personal with Lily Andrews. A woman of epic qualities of courage, loyalty and fearlessness, she was once the sought after agent of the covert Unit 67, buried deep under the layers of the US Intelligence. A career that she walked away from, without a second thought, when she was betrayed and thrown to her death by her partner and fiancée Jackson. Anger burns in her veins, rage rules her heart and revenge gives her a breath of life. She lives for the country and she can never ever forgive a person who betrays her country.

DeadNoMore-LRNicolello-Jan2015

Special ops agent Derek Moretti breaches her Fort Knox as he needs Lily to help him pursue a sociopath who is selling advanced weaponry to terrorists and is hell bent on taking down a country for personal revenge. Having surveyed her for months, living in close proximity yet not beside her, breathing her daily life for months puts Derek in the crossfires of a love he never saw coming. Meeting Lily face to face only hits close to home the feelings this sexy alpha has been hiding; Working side by side on the mission only brings out the fear and protective instincts for the woman who has stolen his heart.

If Nicolello’s first book “Dead Don’t Lie” is loaded with pain, sympathy, torture and loss of loved ones, “Dead No More” is an adrenaline ride of rage, revenge and fiery anger for rich and powerful, planning nuclear destruction. If the first book brings out heart-wrenching sorrow, agony and trauma, “Dead No More” brings out the fierce loyalty, allegiance and the pride soldiers breath to keep their homeland safe from threats, domestic or foreign. Both books stand alone as intense and powerful stories of courage, endurance and love. The contrast between these two stories is so immense; it just brings out the writing prowess of the writer!

You will not encounter another pair like Lily and Derek. Fast and furious, passionate and sizzling, honest and loyal, defiant and kickass!!!! Nicolello has done an amazing job of etching these two perfect people to the point of human imperfection. Giving them equality within their professions, yet keeping them vulnerable to the daily pleasures and insecurities of life is just perfect. Their union is just pure magic with thunderstorms and lightening!

“Dead No More” is another brilliant romantic suspense, and putting the book down for a break is not an option. Revisiting Evelyn and Marcus was pure delight and emotional, and it actually brought a lump to my throat as I remembered their story and union.

A winner for me all the way and it comes alive January 5, 2015

Wolf Haven – A Safe Haven

Lindsay McKenna writes some astounding stories of awe-inspiring courage and love. I’ve read so many of her books, and each book is a testimony of her talent in creating characters with layers of depth, stories that bring you happiness and sadness, and circumstances that take you on a journey of selfless heroism and valor.

Navy ER nurse Skylar Pascal comes back home alive, surviving capture and torture in Afghanistan. No amount of therapy can erase the pain and torment of she had gone through in the war-ravaged country. As she tries to find a footing in the midst of normal life, PTSD does not make it easy for her to keep at jobs. Her search for sanity and survival brings her to Elk Horn Ranch, Wyoming and she gets her first stable job at the ranch taking care of the young guests and running the dispensary.

Ex-Navy Seal Grayson McCoy is the pioneer in helping create a safe haven for wild life on Elk Ranch and Skylar brings out all his protective instincts. Having experienced insurmountable suffering and PTSD, he can really understand Skylar’s plight and is only a step away from lending a helping hand.

As Gray and Skylar work together, flickers of awareness ignite between them. As Skylar gains her confidence back, Gray stokes the flickers into embers of passion. As Skylar heals mentally and physically, Gray finds his center with Skylar. Skylar blossoms in Gray’s protection and the Elk Horn Ranch heals her with its open skies and warmth of the wilderness. Yet sometimes the wilderness and a safe haven can be threatened from the inside….

“Wolf Haven” is another remarkable story of two war veterans, coming back home wounded, and trying to find a place in the norm of life. McKenna does an outstanding job of etching Gray and Skylar, their recuperation and wellness, their support and empathy for each other and the humbleness of nature gives them a safe haven to heal with each, for each other. McKenna pays much need attention to the minutest of details of the healing process…truly a wonderful story in its simplicity of love and complexity of emotions.

Lenora Worth is a first time read for me and her new book “Deadly Holiday Reunion” brings together Texas Ranger Jake Cavanaugh and retired FBI agent Ella Terrell, when Jake’s teenage daughter gets kidnapped; a kidnapper with deadly intentions and very familiar to Ella, from who she barely escaped with her life.

DeadlyHolidayReunion-LenoraWorth-Nov2014

Now Ella has to face the monster from the past to save Jake’s daughter Macey, even if she has to give herself to the killer in exchange for Macey. But Jake is not about to give up on the second chance he’s got with Ella, and would do anything to get back his daughter and keep Ella at her side. Racing against time, and with misleading clues dropped by the killer this is one game that Jake and Ella intend to win and put the killer to rest permanently.

The plot is good, the characters sounded nice, yet the narration lacked conviction and interest for me. I felt it was a tad too lengthy and repetitive of what Jake and Ella are feeling and going through.

It is still a decent one time read.

Here’s another fabulous author/writer who takes great pleasure in keeping her readers entertained with her varied genre of books, from romance to suspense. Brenda Novak’s been one of my favorite writers/authors for a while and her Whiskey Creek Series infamous for giving us plenty of stories.

TheHeartOfChrismas-BrendaNovak-Oct2014

“The Heart Of Christmas” holds Eve Harmon close to heart as the people of Whiskey Creek, CA keeps their own protected and safe. Eve runs a B&B and has a very strong and loyal support of friends, friends who are almost all married and some with children. Her thirty fifth birthday brings melancholy and sadness as she feels that her life is what is now, not able to find the right guy; have a family and kids like her friends. And this birthday she wakes with a stranger in her bed!

Brent Taylor ( aks Rex and other names) is passing through Whiskey Creek, running away from ghosts that refuse to leave him alone. One night with Eve and he is more than attracted to her. But with a dangerous past on his heels, all he can give Eve is lies and love, but no commitment. As he falls more and more into Eve’s love and understanding, his lies catch up to the truth and he has not choice but confess to Eve, risking all that he has come to treasure.

As Eve tries to come to grips with Rex’s reality, her whole team of coffee-friends rallies around her with support and love. Another great story from Brenda Novak, as she pens the pain, frustration and anguish of Rex, to the emotions of loneliness and love of Eve. The Heart Of Christmas takes us on a journey of love and passion, pain and guilt, support and solidarity of a small town, that believes in the magic of Christmas and miracles.
