It’s not like I’m not familiar with Lucy Monroe’s books. In fact I enjoy her stories and have been reading her on and off for a while.

AVirginForHisPrize-LucyMonroe-Oct 2014

Unfortunately “A Virgin For His Prize”, second book in her Ruthless Russians Series, just did not stimulate my juices as much as her earlier books. Maxwell Black is a wealthy Russian, hell bent on possessing the society heiress Romi Grayson. Not believing in happily ever after, love or long-term relationships, he goes about trying to get Romi via blackmail. Romi is extremely attracted to Black and has already made up her mind to accept the proposal despite, Black not declaring his love for her.

There is too much dialogue and less substance in the story. It’s not like I’m averse to dialogue, but they have to be witty, interesting and hold attention to make it a good read. The characters lacked depth, as well as chemistry. Lots of time it felt like I was reading a monologue. Sorry! The premise of the story had great potential; unfortunately it lacked the conviction to harness that story line.

I haven’t read the first book An Heiress For His Empire, which I plan on giving it a shot anyways despite this book not making it happen for me, because Monroe is a good writer and I will go back to her books.

Here’s another first time author for me. Robin Kaye. I liked her writing and narration. “Heat Of The Moment” is a short, sweet and romantic love story between Cameron O’Leary and Erin Crosby.

HeatOfTheMoment-RobinKaye-Oct2014

Cameron is a fourth generation firefighter, who takes an investigative position to stay close to his daughter who’s just recovering from brain tumor. A wonderful and loving father, he wants only the best for his daughter and is on the look-out for live in nanny to take care of his recovering daughter. Having put all his energies in taking care of his daughter, he does not remember the last time he had made some time for himself.

Erin is a private care nurse, working on a thesis, and loves working with children. Not able to keep herself emotionally unattached to her patients, she quits her job as nurse in a hospital, and does private work when needed. She ends up been the caretaker for Cameron’s daughter and they forge a great bond. Sparks fly the minute Cameron sees Erin, and the rest they say is history.

Cameron and Erin are young and adorable, yet mature knowing what they want in life. Cameron’s family is big, supportive and lovable. Cameron and Erin fall for each other instantaneously and circumstances bring the love between them to light.

A perfect story for that perfect romance, for a perfect read next to a fireplace!

Writing a book is no mean task. Years of research and reading, approvals and disapprovals, edits and corrections, time away from family and burning the midnight oil. I have the ultimate respect for writers and authors, who have chalked a large percentage of their time to give us readers, wonderful and heartwarming stories of love and passion, evil and good, relationships and support, pain and turmoil, allegiance and loyalty.

Maya Banks is one such writer (one of my top favorites), as she weaves stories spanning multiple genres, and I love every one of them. Her new series “Slow Burn” is no exception to her mastery of writing and the first book “Keep Me Safe” is a brilliant portrayal of a woman cloaked in pain and torment hoping to be saved by a knight in shining armor and maybe just hope for a normal life.

KeepMeSafe-SlowBurn1-Oct 2014

Ramie has psychic powers that connect her to the victims through their pain, but it comes at a very high price with Ramie going through the same pain as the victims. A power that has put her in hiding from the society, as a stalker is hell bent on killing her. She cannot escape him and she cannot get to him, as the stalker has psychic abilities that are a danger to Ramie’s life.

Caleb Devereaux hunts down Ramie at her hiding place, as she is the only one who can save his kidnapped sister, not realizing the physical pain that Ramie has to through. Despite filled with remorse for the pain he’s caused Ramie, he would have gone to the ends of earth to protect his family, and vows to repay her any which way he can. When he gets the call from Ramie to keep her safe, he leaves nothing to chance to protect her, give her security and keep her close to his heart.

As the passion flares between Caleb and Ramie, the body count rises and the killer becomes more and more aggressive. Maya Banks breathes life into her characters of Ramie and Caleb, as they go through desperation and anguish, nightmares and fear and helplessness and frustration. The emotions roll off of her pages and you get sucked into Caleb’s and Ramie’s depth of love and despair. They hold a very special place in my heart as one of the best fictional couples of Maya Banks.

The final chapters of “Keep Me Safe”, is pure brilliant creative writing and leaves you wanting to read more of Caleb and Ramie. A great writer is one who can make the characters living and breathing, and Maya Banks has always succeeded time and again. Her books leave you yearning for more and more!

I can’t get over the fact how thrilling and sensual Katie Reus’s books are. Every single book is a story of suspense, passion and immense chemistry overflowing each page.

“Dangerous Surrender” is book#4 of her series “The Serafina: Sin City”. No different from the adrenaline rush of reading her previous books, yet stands apart from her other books in the series. Taylor is a computer genius, hacker and investigator, and discovers fraud and embezzlement in her company. The partner kills her boss and mentor, and she gets framed for the murder. On the run and with avenues closed off, she escapes to Vegas to get help from her friend Vadim. Unfortunately Vadim is on his honeymoon, and she breaks into the house to stay safe.

DangerousSurrender-Serafina4-Oct2014

Roman is an ex-marine; working for the infamous and super wealthy Christiansen, and he’s been delegated the job of house-sitting and dog sitting while Vadim is on his honeymoon. As much as he is impressed with Taylor for breaking into a high security house, Taylor trying to knock him out does not sit very well with him. But she sure knocks his socks off with her intelligence and fearlessness.

With misunderstandings out of the way, Taylor brings out all his protective instincts along with spades of instant chemistry and attraction. As they try to bring the killer to justice, Taylor and Roman explore each other’s feelings and give into each other. But will it last once the killer is apprehended is a million dollar question.

Fast paced, creative story line, a beautiful and intelligent Taylor, and an alpha marine Roman – Dangerous Surrender” is instant gratification!!!

It’s funny how sometimes I read new authors, like them, but don’t go back to them (not by choice), and suddenly realize, I’ve read this author before, and liked her books. Jeannie Moon did not ring a bell until I started reading “The Second Chance Hero”, and realized the secondary characters sounded so familiar. One click and was able to connect the dots to her first two books in the “A Forever Love Story Series” (The Temporary Wife, Unexpectedly Yours, The Wedding Secret), and the third yet to read is now in my ‘to be read’ pile.

I loved her first two books, and remember re-reading them a few times and this book is no exception. Combat nurse Kim Torres has seen a lot of horrible things in the war torn region of Afghanistan, but nothing is more terrible than having her fiancé die in her arms. That day also brings to light the reality of their relationship, and Kim leaves the service to lick her wounds and get a grip on her life. Now she works as a nanny to a little girl and is trying to put the pieces of her life together.

SecondChanceHero-JeanieMoon-Oct2014

Major Owen Kent was the commander of Kim’s fiancée and the day she collapses against him is the day Owen could not keep Kim away from his thoughts. Coming home from deployment and getting back into the grove of been a CIO of his wealthy software company founded with his friends, keeps him pretty busy. They say it is a small world and a chance meeting with Kim, as she works for Harper and Kevin, is not something to put aside. Not believing in coincidences, he hopes to convince Kim of his love to her.

With some family interference and friends’ support, as some secrets come into light, Owen and Kim try to put their past pain behind them for a new future. “A Second Chance Hero” is another great story from Jeannie Moon’s basket brimming with romance, love, friendship and trust.
