More secrets……darker and deeper……murky waters and evil…..web of evil getting tighter and tighter……

And that is how the second book in the Rogue River Series, “Gone To Her Grave”, embroils us into more questions than answers. Innocent lives seem to be threatened, and an unknown drug has the town of Solitude in a grip of danger and death.

GoneToHerGrave

Carly Taylor, a social worker in Solitude goes to the rescue of a teen caught in a vicious grip of murder and drugs. Against her estranged husband’s word, Seth Harding who happens to be running the investigation, Carly gets caught in the crossfire of danger with no resolution to the issue.

Seth Harding loves his wife more than anything in the world, and constantly lives with the fear of losing her. He can’t seem to understand Carly or her desire to protect these troubled children, and this been the bone of contention separating them in marriage. But now with Carly in danger, and the town in the grips of an unknown drug, Seth is going to do his damn best to make sure Carly stays alive, with him forever no matter what.

Co-written by Kendra Elliot and Melinda Leigh, experts of suspense and thrillers, Rogue River Series is a four-part novella, taking us into the dark side of Solitude. With emotions and danger on the rise, passion and relationships tested, and strange deaths and disappearances on the menu, “Gone To Her Grave” leads us into the third book of the series….with more menace and peril.

Received an ARC via Netgalley for an honest review.

It’s funny how sometimes I read new authors, like them, but don’t go back to them (not by choice), and suddenly realize, I’ve read this author before, and liked her books. Jeannie Moon did not ring a bell until I started reading “The Second Chance Hero”, and realized the secondary characters sounded so familiar. One click and was able to connect the dots to her first two books in the “A Forever Love Story Series” (The Temporary Wife, Unexpectedly Yours, The Wedding Secret), and the third yet to read is now in my ‘to be read’ pile.

I loved her first two books, and remember re-reading them a few times and this book is no exception. Combat nurse Kim Torres has seen a lot of horrible things in the war torn region of Afghanistan, but nothing is more terrible than having her fiancé die in her arms. That day also brings to light the reality of their relationship, and Kim leaves the service to lick her wounds and get a grip on her life. Now she works as a nanny to a little girl and is trying to put the pieces of her life together.

Major Owen Kent was the commander of Kim’s fiancée and the day she collapses against him is the day Owen could not keep Kim away from his thoughts. Coming home from deployment and getting back into the grove of been a CIO of his wealthy software company founded with his friends, keeps him pretty busy. They say it is a small world and a chance meeting with Kim, as she works for Harper and Kevin, is not something to put aside. Not believing in coincidences, he hopes to convince Kim of his love to her.

With some family interference and friends’ support, as some secrets come into light, Owen and Kim try to put their past pain behind them for a new future. “A Second Chance Hero” is another great story from Jeannie Moon’s basket brimming with romance, love, friendship and trust.

Kathleen Brooks is one firecracker of a writer and pens some real entertaining and delightful stories. Her characters make us fall in love with them, in all their perfectly imperfect glory!

Her new series, “Women Of Power” is a power-pack trilogy of three amazing women, who have made their presence in a so-called man’s world. Women who step right up to the plate for what they want, avoiding drama and not wasting on unimportant things, with focus and dedication.

ChosenForPower1-KathleenBrooks-Oct2014

“Chosen For Power” is book#1 in the series with Elle Simpson, at the helm of Simpson Global, a multi-million dollar conglomerate. Wearing clothes of dignity, perseverance and empathy, she built a successful empire of solid foundation with the bricks thrown at her, fulfilling her father’s dream with the unconditional support of her family. A dream, that is been threatened now with danger lurking in the shadows to strike her down.

Drake Charles is a wealthy and powerful force behind a fast growing mobile technology, but keeps himself hidden from the public and media. As mysterious as his identity, every year he hosts an annual masquerade ball for charity, hoping he would find his woman for eternity, to love him and not his wealth.

Elle and Drake meet behind the masks at the ball and fall in love. Drake is a confident business man, not empowered by Elle’s power, and he believes that women are meant to be loved and sets forth to prove it. Successful Elle may be strong, yet is not afraid to show her weakness, vulnerability or fear as she tries to get to the bottom of the danger to her and family.

Charismatic narration, witty humor with Margaret and Shirley leading that end, immeasurable love and support among the family members, and undeniable passion and chemistry between Elle and Drake, makes “Chosen For Power” a fabulous read, and to be re-read….many more times!

BuiltForPower2-KathleenBrooks-OCt 2014

The second book in the series, “Built For Power”, has the sassy and energetic Bree Simpson butting heads with the charming architect Logan Ward.

Bree heads the Simpson Constructions, and is facing major delays and threats in her new project and blames Logan Ward for it. Logan Ward is tired of the harassing calls from B. Simpson and decides to fly down to Atlanta, and face the devil and set things right.

Logan ends up saving Bree from a construction accident, and sparks fly as they get to know each other. With danger hovering over Bree, he decides to stay back and smooth things and test the waters with Bree and a future.

I love when alpha men are confident of themselves and their powerful partners, giving them the room to pursue their own careers, and ready to support and help when needed. And I love when they are assertive and ready to be the first ones to confess their feelings.  Logan is such a sweetheart and Bree sure keeps him on his toes.

“Built For Power” is another fast and passionate story as Logan and Bree are ready to build their future together. Kathleen Brooks does an amazing job of penning her characters to a T, that you really can’t find anything wrong with their perfect imperfections.

I rarely read Beverly Barton (not by choice mind you), and the handful that I’ve read have been very impressive. Her latest release, “I’ll Be Watching You”, is another brilliant thriller with a combination of passion, evil and suspense.

Reed Conway returns to Spring Creek, AL on parole, after being imprisoned for the murder of his stepfather. His main goal is to stay out of trouble and try to find the real killer to prove his innocence. Prison life had turned Reed into a strong and fearless guy, breathing nothing but getting exonerated.

I'llBeWatchingYou-BeverlyBarton-Oct2014

Ella Porter is the Spring Creek Court Judge, tormented by a stalker. The adopted daughter of Senator Webb Porter and his wife Carolyn, she is the princess of her father’s eye. Always one to bend backwards to put others needs in front of her; she is the dutiful daughter who crosses the line by falling in love with white trash. Yet, she rebelliously sticks to her guts, at the same time ensuring that her father is aware of her love and her place.

Reed and Ella come together as the flare of passion ignites into flames, and a killer is on the loose wanting to send Reed back into prison. Ella believes in Reed’s innocence, and convinces her father to reopen the murder case from fifteen years ago. As they try to get to the bottom of the mystery, someone is hell bent on keeping the past secrets from been revealed and take them to the grave.

“I’ll Be Watching You” is just not a thriller. It is a brilliant narration of relationships explored and circumstances that make people act on them. It takes you on a journey with people who have become victims to love and obsession, secrets buried deep in a tight knit community where money and power take precedence, retribution and unrequited love. It also explores the dynamics of families as the members struggle to cope with the reality of the family connections, misplaced loyalties and support, lust and passion, revenge and sickness.

Beverly Barton does a fine job of keeping the suspense going in every page as she narrates the story through the main players, and keeps the interest going trying to deduce the killer.
